What is the truth behind it all

Image
Many potential migrating people see gold every time they think of migrating to the United States. But in reality, they don't see the potential suffering they may face. The suffering comes mainly from the separation of families. Families that come to the United States and leave loved ones behind, will probably never see them again or not at least for a long time. When coming to the United States, many dreams of finding wealth as soon as they are on American soil. Yet that is not anything that happens.      Many flee their countries due to the living conditions and the violence in their homeland. Many also migrate because they want to give their loved ones a better future. As the United States is seen as a country of hope. Hope that families don't have in their home country.   When migrating many face hunger, living conditions, and migration, not to mention the extreme weather conditions they face themselves when traveling by foot to migrate. Deportation when trying to reach the American Dream...

Image
When leaving your home country, the last thing that's on your mind is getting deported. Deported to the land that saw you be born, the land you are leaving behind to find a brighter future for your loved ones. But what assures you that you won't get deported when following your American Dream? Nothing, there is absolutely nothing that will help you. On the contrary, it seems as though everything is against you.  Many political parties don't seem to see or even care what a family goes through when their loved one is deported. Mothers, fathers, and children lose loved ones due to deportation daily. And most of the people that are being deported are honest people that are only trying to support their families. What happens with a USA-born child's parents being deported? Do the political parties ever ask themselves that question? Do they care? Families are torn apart just because they don't have the proper documentation to be in the United States. But acquiring legalit...

Following your Dreams or Nightmare?

Image
This image shows how people are following the American Dream. There are people do different Races and cultures and ethnicities.  There are areas on the wall that are thin and starting to break.  This shows how many try to reach the American dream but only a few make it.  The American Dream Game: People of color have been segregated throughout history and have always struggled more to accomplish their dreams.  As seen in this image, right from the beginning there's inequality. The black person automatically loses 2 turns while the white person gets free land. Although the black person has traveled through the game, the white person still asks "Are you slow or what?" The American Dream with Attached Mirage Many people believe that by coming to the United States they will fulfill their dreams. But the reality is that nothing in the United States is free of charge, not even the air we breathe. Living in the US comes with debt, mortgage, and student loans. If you want to ...

Financial Inequality

Image
Inequality is defined as income being distributed unevenly to a group of people.  This is another important factor that plays a large role in reaching the American Dream.  Many Acts have been passed throughout time but it seems as though no matter what they're still is that financial inequality there.  Job pay should be determined by the education level or job experience a person has.  But inequality kicks in when it's determined by sex or race.  That's when it becomes unfair. Many have suffered the effects and ripples of white supremacy and pay inequality.  Since there has been a need to work to maintain a family or even pay the bills for some reason it seems as though money is never enough.  According to the article "Wage Discrimination Based on Gender and Race", by Angela Kennedy, Eiko Nagata, Brandy P. Mushenski, and Danyelle L. Johnson, "Statistics on the frequency of wage discrimination show that jobs held by women and ...

Fleeing Violence

Immigrants have migrated from Mexico since the beginning of time.  Although migration doesn't just come from people in Mexico.  People from all over the world come in search of the American Dream, for some is harder than others to get here.  But sometimes not even deserts or the ocean itself stops them from migrating.  In the United States, people migrate from all continents.  The majority of migration occurs due to violence that happens all over the world.  People put themselves in danger to make it to the United States.  This was the case for the migrates that were coming from Central America.  According to one of the travelers, "We haven't eaten anything in many days".  They don't have the money to buy things along the way because they are fleeing.   Sometimes migration occurs due to living in bad situations and having a bad economy in their place of origin.  They travel to the United States in search of a safe...

What is the "American Dream"?

Image
My grandma tells a story of when she was 10 years old.  She lived in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  Ciudad Juarez is a city that is across the border from El Paso.  She recalls playing as a child there when the border was just made of barb wire.  During this time she remembers helping people get across the "river" and would charge them 10 cents.  The people who were coming to "America", people who were in search of the "American Dream".  A dream that was talked about in the Pueblos in the country south of the border.  People making money, like it was growing from trees.  The dream that was followed by many, not knowing what impact it could potentially have in their lives or the lives of their children.  Many follow this dream but only a few succeed.  Why is that?  Is it because of their skin color?  Their language?  Or the way society portrays them?  Or could it be just a mixture of everything?  People that come ...
